The droplet spectrum is larger than a flat fan, which reults in droplets hitting the target rather than drifting away.

The spray droplets contain air bubbles, which on contact with leaf surfaces will splat and stick on the leaf,rather than bounce off and hit the ground. So despite the droplets being larger than flat fan spray droplets, they are still effective.
