Using radar sensors and requiring no mains electrical connections, the new Agricultural Tank Monitoring System from North Yorkshire based    J F Hudson continuously checks the level of many of the different liquids which are stored on farms, and sends an alarm in the event of unexpected level changes.

The ATMS can be fitted to tanks and lagoons in remote locations, but information is transmitted direct to any nominated user by either email, text or phone call, as well as a central data store. Importantly, the system is designed to send an alarm should the liquid reach an unexpected level either during filling, or when a leak could be responsible for a falling level. Up to four adjacent tanks or stores can be managed by one installation and apart from level monitoring, the ATMS will also warn if a valve is unintentionally open.

The system was developed and tested in conjunction with AWSM Farms in North Yorkshire and, says J.F. Hudson managing director James Hudson, is suitable for slurry stores, water lagoons, digestate tanks or liquid fertiliser stores.

 “The system is useful when, for example, filling a remote store by umbilical, or where there could be a risk of environmental pollution in the event of a leak. It simply offers peace of mind,” says Mr Hudson.

It can be either battery powered, or if extensive use is made of information and data transfer, a solar powered option is available. The system is suitable for user installation or can be fitted by the company.

The central data store allows user interface, as well as retaining information which may be required at a later date.

The standard battery powered version costs £2,897.73 plus VAT while the solar powered option sells at £3,753.49 plus VAT.
